Card Mall Charity Auction Part II
Ive received a few e-mail messages from people asking about what is going on with the charity auction. For those that werent around last year, I held a phonecard auction with material donated from dealers, collectors, and issuers. Well over $3,000 was raised for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. I definitely plan on holding another auction this year. People or companies interested in donating material can contact me at their convenience. Last year, the auction was held around mid-June. This year, it will be a little later. Ive delayed it due to uncertainty about my plans I could be moving this summer (to anywhere in the U.S., the second time in three years, so this is a familiar story to those who know me!) If I move, I will hold the auction in the fall. If I do not move, I will hold the auction around July. More on this in a future issue of POL, but I can definitely start accepting donations. All donation are tax deductible, and you will receive a letter from the Make-A-Wish Organization detailing your donation. Additionally, 100% of proceeds from this auction are given to the charity, and for those who bid on lots, shipping is on me!

PRESS RELEASES
AT&T NBA Sweepstakes
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 13, 1998--Making a phone call
and sinking five NBA three-point shots could be worth $2 million for a
lucky NBA fan.
AT&T today announced its national NBA sweepstakes, the AT&T $2
Million Shootout. Customers can enroll in this new contest through May
17, by calling 1-888-6FINALS.
One grand prize winner will receive a first-class trip to a 1998
NBA Finals game and participate in the AT&T $2 Million Shootout. The
Shootout gives the grand prize winner a chance to make five NBA
regulation three-point shots at an NBA Finals game. The first four
shots are worth $250,000 each and the fifth shot, the "money ball," is
worth $1 million. If the shooter makes all five shots, he or she will
be awarded $2 million. The shooter will be paid for every shot he or
she makes. If the shooter misses all five shots, he or she will
receive $25,000 just for trying.
In addition, 5,000 other sweepstakes entrants will receive a
collectible AT&T NBA Prepaid Card good for 30 minutes of calls in the
U.S.
"This is the stuff that dreams are made of," said Doug Quinn,
vice president - AT&T Growth Markets. "We're giving someone a chance
to play an active role in the NBA Finals and they could walk away $2
million richer."
"The AT&T $2 Million Shootout brings another level of excitement
to the NBA Finals," said Mike Stevens, vice president, marketing
partnerships, NBA. "AT&T has been a valued partner of ours for six
years and we're delighted that they have chosen the Finals as the hook
for such a major consumer promotion."
As an added bonus, AT&T customers can also enroll in a promotion
to receive half-price rates during the NBA Playoffs and Finals on
direct-dialed interstate calls made to states with playoff teams. AT&T
customers who enroll in this promotion receive a 50 percent discount
off their current rates for calls made on weekends during the Playoffs
and Finals (April 23 through June 17), provided they are calling one
of the states whose team qualifies for the NBA Playoffs. Playoff teams
will be determined by April 19, the end of the NBA regular season. To
participate in the half-price promotion, customers can enroll when
they dial 1-888-6FINALS.
The AT&T $2 Million Shootout is a consumer extension of the AT&T
Shootout, the NBA three-point shooting contest that takes place on
All-Star Saturday. AT&T has been a proud sponsor of the NBA since
1992.
Sprint / Football Hall of Fame
CANTON, Ohio--(BW SportsWire)--April 8, 1998--Each year
thousands of football fans travel long distances to visit the Pro
Football Hall of Fame.
Now, thanks to Sprint, the official telecommunications provider
to the NFL, the Hall is able to reward dedicated football fans with
free minutes of domestic long distance calling. The free minutes
will be in the form of Sprint Commemorative Super Bowl Ticket
prepaid phone cards.
Beginning on Friday, April 10, while supplies last, the Hall of
Fame and Sprint will give away 30,000 sets of the commemorative
Sprint prepaid phone cards. With each admission to the Hall,
visitors will receive the first four-card set of the 32-card series.
The first set of phone cards are replica tickets from Super Bowls I
through IV. Each of the attractive tickets provides 10 free minutes
of domestic long distance calling.
The ticket replicas, created by Sprint, capture the exact art,
color and layout of the original Super Bowl tickets, from the famous
bronze facial representation on the Super Bowl I ticket to the
colorful portrayal of the San Diego community found on the Super
Bowl XXXII ticket.
"These are exact replicas of game tickets from each and every
Super Bowl, pulled together in a set for the first time. They
truly provide a nostalgic look at how pro football, and the Super
Bowl, has evolved throughout the past three decades," commented John
Bankert, Hall of Fame executive director. "We are delighted to be
able to offer the first set of these unique collectibles to our
patrons."
Consumers can call 1-888/864-8211 to complete this collector's
ticket series from every Super Bowl ever played by switching to
Sprint long distance. Each replica ticket is worth 10 minutes of
long distance, 320 minutes for the entire collection. The first
four cards will be given to Hall of Fame visitors. Join and remain
a Sprint customer for the next seven months and receive four cards
per month for a total of 32 cards.
