NYNEX $1 Yellow Telephone Complimentary Card - A pilot program with optical telephone cards was conducted by NYNEX (now Bell Atlantic) between 1991 and 1994. They installed a number of card phones at both ends of the Staten Island Ferry and issued several different types of phonecards which they called "Change Cards". All these phonecards
(and also the public phones) were produced by Landis & Gyr of Switzerland. Most of these phonecards pictured New York related sights. To help get the program started, NYNEX issued a promotional $1 phonecard with a picture of a yellow telephone. Yellow costumed employees were placed at the Ferry Terminals to hand out these cards to Staten Island commuters. The pilot program was concluded in 1994, at which time NYNEX switched over
to magnetic backed cards. Powell Associates offers the above card in unused (mint) condition at $12.75 plus $3.00 for shipping charges. We have 15 of these cards in their
original promotional folder, and we will be able to fill the first 15 orders with folders.
