Orlando FUN Show 1999 Phonecard Section

From: Scott Shapiro, KARS Unlimited

FUN Show 99 Information Sheet
January 7-10, 1999
Orlando, Florida

Through the efforts of many individuals, a Phonecard and SVC Section has been established at the 44th Annual Florida United Numismatists (FUN) Show, to be held at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida, January 7-10, 1999.

Most Dealers agree that the Trade Shows of the past have not worked and setting up at an already established Collectors Show is a good way to establish our Hobby. Since Moneycards are already a branch of Numismatics, a Coin Show seems a natural place for us. The FUN Show is one of the premier Coin Shows in the US, with over 10,000 attendees in 1998. We need a US Show for gathering and enjoying our hobby.

The FUN Organization has not only agreed to create a section, but to publicize it in their advertising. In addition, MoneyCard Collector will be there in force! They are planning displays, educational seminars, giveaways and other surprises. Several Dealers have already expressed an interest in having a Booth at the Show and many Collectors have made plans to attend. As it is a local show for us and we know the routine from having a Booth for the last three years, KARS is volunteering to be the contact point for Dealers and Collectors.

The FUN Show is a well established show within the Coin Collecting Hobby. It is well organized, well run and well attended. Dealers and individual Collectors come from all across the nation. Of the 400+ Booths, all branches of Numismatics are represented. Many Coin Dealers already offer Phonecards and SVCs. Many of the names of Coin Dealers who regularly attend this Show will surprise you, as you know them as Phonecard Dealers: Carson City King, Steve Eyer, Golden Eagle Coins, Sears Coin & Stamp Dept. Orlando is an ideal city to attend a show, especially in January! The Convention Center is a modern facility - well designed, food and beverages are available, parking is ample, Shuttle buses operate continuously. Hotels, Restaurants and shopping abound. If you are bringing along the family for a winter vacation, the Worlds best attractions (Disney World, Universal Studios, Sea World, etc.) are just minutes away. Best of all, admission to the Show is FREE.

We hope to create excitement here. Having attended Shows around the World, we have seen the way a true Collector Show can be good for the Hobby. Seeing all the cards you read about is fun in itself. The variety of product and new items you never knew existed is amazing. Trading and swapping with Dealers or other Collectors can fill uncounted hours. Consider coming to Florida and help establish the FUN Phonecard/SVC section as an annual event. Dealers & Collectors: contact KARS Unlimited for information on Booths, Hotels, Travel, etc.
