Telephone Pioneers

From: Tom Hutchinson, Bell Atlantic/Formerly NYNEX Pioneer Organization.

Three months ago I had three cards produced to continue the Historical Telephone Card Series that I started with the set of four NYNEX cards in December of 1996. The new three cards depicts historical telephones of different vintages. They retail for $10.00 each and have 30 minutes of time by Cable & Wireless. They were produced by Telenova in VT. The issue was limited to 1,000 of each card....and are a part of a series of 12 I plan to continue to the cadre of collectors of cards that enjoy historical telephone images. These cards have not been promoted, due to my other duties, running the Telephone Pioneer organization from Maine to West Virginia - an area with 179,000 members and a lot of meetings and travel. To date, 200 cards have been sold, and I have yet to reach out to my mailing list of 455 people - who have reserved numbers - due to a lack of time and staff support. I hope to attend to that in August when my travel schedule subsides. Nevertheless, I wanted you and the collector community to be aware of this issue, especially those who have bought the entire NYNEX Pioneer series of cards.

Cards are available by sending a check to Bell Atlantic Pioneers for $34.95 - that includes shipping and handling (sorry about the $4.95 addition - I have to hire a manpower - excuse me (Personpower) temporary to do the handling and shipping and it is a minimum of 8 hours a day. So, if your readers respond quickly, there might be a delay of a week or two until I get enough orders to hire a person to ship out the cards. I hope everyone realizes that the Telephone Pioneers are a non-profit organization and all the proceeds from the cards go to support our charitable causes.

If anyone has interest in these cards - the address to send their check is - Bell Atlantic Pioneers - 6 Bowdoin Square - Boston, MA 02114 Or e-mail AntiqueTel@aol.com for more information.

MasterCard International, the official card and official payment system of World Cup 1998, taking place from June 10-July 12, had signed an agreement with France Telecom, the official telecommunications provider for the event, through which France Telecom is marketing the official prepaid calling card in France.

Global One, under its agreement, will market and distribute the official MasterCard World Cup '98 prepaid card through special programs in over 100 countries outside of France.

"We are delighted to have been chosen by such a respected leader as MasterCard International to help support in the world's premier sports tournament and are honored to provide our services for the official MasterCard World Cup '98 prepaid calling card," said Fred Rucker, Global One executive vice president for Sales and Marketing.

The launch of the MasterCard World Cup '98 prepaid calling card responds to overwhelming global demand among the millions of soccer fans and the general public who wish to commemorate the world's largest single sporting event -- this year with 32 competing teams, an estimated 2.5 million spectators, and a cumulative television audience of around 35 billion.

IDT Phonecard Donation

KANSAS CITY, MO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 10, 1998--The Veterans of Foreign Wars announced today that IDT Corporation (NASDAQ:IDTC), a New Jersey-based calling card company, has generously donated 15,000 pre-paid phone cards to Operation Uplink. The domestic phone cards will be given to active duty troops and hospitalized veterans in celebration of Independence Day.

"We are extremely grateful to IDT for their enthusiastic support of Operation Uplink," shares Joanne Dickerson, Production Coordinator, VFW Marketing Services. "The donation will enable countless individuals to get in contact with their families."

According to Dickerson, who worked with IDT in securing the gift, each phone card contains ten minutes long distance phone time. Together, the cards are valued at more than $37,000.

The gift was organized by Edward Miller, IDT Vice President - Corporate Sales. In announcing the gift, Miller commented on how appropriate a time Independence Day is for such a gift, expressing gratitude for the sacrifices veterans and active duty troops continue to make.

"Working with IDT, especially Mr. Miller, has been a wonderful experience," says Dickerson. "His genuine concern for veterans and those serving our country is readily apparent."

Through the generous donations of VFW members and supporters, Operation Uplink has already distributed more than 70,000 pre-paid phone cards in VA Medical Centers and military bases around the world.
