Beam Me Up, Scotty!

NEW YORK--(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)--Feb. 18, 1998--AT&T is announcing a new Star Trek prepaid card today that will make it easy and fun for Trekkers and non-Trekkers alike to connect to other Earthlings.

Available on April 1, Star Trek AT&T PrePaid Cards feature scenes from all four television series and are collectibles or gifts that are also useful, guaranteeing that callers will always be connected to the AT&T Network.

The first four Star Trek AT&T PrePaid Cards feature characters from all four TV series: a 15-minute card with Captain Kirk from the original series; a 100-minute card with Lt. Data and Lt. Worf from Star Trek: The Next Generation; a 30-minute card with Commander Sisko and Judzea Dax from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine; and a 60-minute card with Seven of Nine from Star Trek: Voyager.

"After more than 30 years of four TV series and eight movies, Star Trek has become an institution. I'm excited about teaming up with another great American institution like AT&T to offer fans a colorful collectible item that's also very practical," said William Shatner, who starred as Captain Kirk in the original series, at a New York press conference to announce that AT&T is now the official prepaid card provider for Star Trek.

True Trekkers can ensure that they will be among the first to get the cards by ordering now through 1 800-467-1756, extension 52740. All four cards can also be seen and ordered through the Internet beginning the week of March 16, on AT&T's web site at www.att.com/prepaidcard/.

Prepaid cards are one of the fastest-growing communications products, with the number of Americans who have bought or used one doubling over the past year," said Howard McNally, AT&T vice president for consumer product management. "The AT&T name on our cards assures customers that they will receive the service they are paying for. By combining the AT&T brand with the greatest brand in entertainment, we are set to take the industry to the next level of mass popularity."

When the cards become available the first week of April, the first retailer to commit to selling Star Trek AT&T PrePaid Cards is Spencer Gifts, with over 500 stores nationwide.

To celebrate the first release of the cards, AT&T WorldNetTM Service, the country's largest direct Internet services provider, will host an online chat session with William Shatner on April 6 at 9 p.m. EDT. AT&T WorldNet Service will also feature hot links to recommended Star Trek web sites on its home page at www.att.net.

Retailers interested in selling Star Trek AT&T PrePaid Cards can call 1-800-448-3127 for more information. The Star Trek name and logos were made available to AT&T through an arrangement with Future Call Company, Inc.
