Sprint Superbowl Phonecards

CANTON, Ohio., Dec. 30, 1997 -- The Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio unveiled a new exhibit today featuring exact replicas of tickets from every Super Bowl to date. The complete set of all 32 replica tickets, signed by Hall of Famers Larry Csonka, Dick Butkus, "Deacon" Jones and Ray Nitschke, was presented to Hall of Fame Executive Director John Bankert by Csonka, Nitschke and NFL sponsor Sprint.

Football fans can see the Super Bowl replica ticket signed collection at the Hall of Fame today through the end of January, when the set will travel to San Diego to be auctioned for charity at Super Bowl XXXII.

The one-of-a-kind set of autographed tickets, delivered under heavy security to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, reminds fans of some of the greatest moments in football history such as the Green Bay Packers win of their first Super Bowl in 29 years during Super Bowl XXXI, and Super Bowl XIV when Terry Bradshaw helped the Steelers become the first team to win four Super Bowls.

"This display gives our visitors a real glimpse at professional football," said Bankert. "These are exact replicas of game tickets from each and every Super Bowl, pulled together in a set for the very first time. They truly provide a nostalgic look at how pro football, and the Super Bowl, has evolved throughout the past three decades. It's a real treat for our patrons and pro football fans."

The ticket replicas, created by Sprint, capture the exact art, color and layout of the original Super Bowl tickets, from the famous bronze facial representation.

Super Bowl I ticket to the fantasy representation of New Orleans on the Super Bowl XXXI ticket. In addition, each replica ticket not only honors great Super Bowl games of the past, but also is a Sprint Prepaid Foncard(sm) good for 10 minutes of free long distance calling.

Consumers can own their own piece of history simply by signing up for Sprint long distance January 1 through Super Bowl Sunday or by becoming the highest bidder of the autographed set of replica tickets when they are auctioned for charity Super Bowl weekend. At Super Bowl XXXII the complete display of signed Super Bowl replica tickets that is on display this month at the Pro Football Hall of Fame will be auctioned to benefit charity.

"These ticket replicas are so authentic looking, you could frame them and folks would think you've been to each and every game," said Tom Kessler, assistant vice president of marketing for Sprint. "They are true collector's items, and only available until Sunday Jan. 25, the day of the Super Bowl."

By calling 1-800-PIN-DROP or stopping by a local RadioShack store, new Sprint long distance customers will receive four Super Bowl replica tickets, each worth 10 minutes of free calls. Every month consumers remain with Sprint, they receive four more Super Bowl replica tickets. Consumers can collect all 32 cards, worth 320 minutes of free calls.

The display at the Pro Football Hall of Fame complements Sprint's Super Bowl-themed TV advertising which begins Jan. 1. The ads, promoting Sprint's collectible Super Bowl Ticket Prepaid Foncards, feature Men Behaving Badly's (and former Saturday Night Live cast member) Rob Schneider, movie and television personality Tom Arnold (The Tom Show), and Hall of Famers Csonka, Jones, Butkus and Nitschke. Schneider and Arnold play a pair of obsessed football fans who break into the Pro Football Hall of Fame to steal the set of collectible cards, only to be stopped by some of the best players ever from the NFL.

This Sprint Prepaid Foncard offer follows this fall's highly successful Spree® NFL promotion, where consumers who purchased a Sprint Prepaid Foncard received a limited edition prepaid card featuring NFL Quarterback Club Superstars. Sprint is the leader in the prepaid card category, having issued its 100 millionth card this year, and currently holds a 30 percent share of the overall prepaid card market.

Commentary about new format

Alan speaking again - I’ve received a sample copy of the new format, and must say that I like it a lot. I think by going to the tabloid format, this will give Moneycard Collector a lot of room to get more people involved in the publication, and hopefully expand the hobby. Offering a free classified ad and free trading post ads are something that I think will get more people involved. Kudos to Moneycard Collector for making these exciting changes, I am sure everyone will look forward to the new format come March.

Macy’s Phone Card

Just a few weeks before Christmas, Macy's in the DC metro area were running two phone card giveways. First, if you bought a pair of men's Rockports, you received a free 15-minute phone card. It is in a nice folder, has the Rockport and Macy's logos, and is issued by Phonecard Express. Second, if you bought a pair of Slates (men's dress pants), you received a free 10-minute phone card. It's black with the Slates logo in bronze, and comes on a classy cardboard carrier--and the entire package is shrink-wrapped. Both cards are hard plastic.

Wal-Mart Phonecards

At the Wal-Mart locations in San Diego area, I saw MCI Prepaid 10 unit card, the image is the Santa, price and expiration dates are unknown. But am surprised that each is packaged inside of the top half of the card, leaving the bottom half out open (could be easily exposed to stratching the card) Very strange packaging. A stack of MCI prepaid cards were at the side of the cashier aisle. Wished I could look around more or remember more further details.

More Wal-Mart

I Found a AT&T card in a marked box of Top Flite golf balls at Walmart. The cost was around $16. The card features a golfer and has a silvery color to it.

Phone Offer

Call 1-888-MY-HEART and get a brochure and a free 10 min. pc. You talk to an actual operator who asks a few questions including where you saw this offer. I found it is USA Weekend magazine, but she also tells you to share this phone number with your friends and family.
