Charity Auction Update

For those of you who have no interest in the charity auction (which I hope is not many of you) there won’t be much more talk about this after a couple of weeks. The auction begins this Friday, June 6th, and ends on June 13th. Everyone subscribed to this list will receive the auction one time - A special mailing will be done on Friday. You will only receive the auction through POL one time. If you are interested in receiving daily updates, you must be added to my personal auction mailing list.

I’ve started to catalog the auction, and there will be well over 200 lots available. Everything from used cards to rare or unusual material will be available, so it should appeal to almost everyone. Look for that auction list to be mailed on Friday June 6th. If you have something that you want to donate, it is not too late, but coming very close to being late. Please contact me to discuss it.

Desert Calling Cards, Inc.

*Press Release*

Desert Calling Cards, Inc. is a Utah based corporation specializing in cards for the Christian market. We are currently producing a limited edition series on the Temples of the LDS Church (Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints). There are 50 temples. The LDS Church has over 8 million members - just over half live outside of the United States. The missionary program for the LDS Church is extensive and is part of the reason we are so excited about using a combination of Temple pictures and prepaid phone cards.

Each card has selected scripture from various church sources and is unactivated at the point of purchase. This has been done to allow us to sell cards to those who wish to use them for display purposes only; the sets come in an album or as a framed set. It also eliminates an expiration date. For those who wish to activate the cards, it is $25.00 for 100 minutes as a minimum charge. In addition to the usual reasons to use pre-paid phone cards, the LDS Church Missionary Program involves individuals and families throughout the United States and the world. We donate 10% of all activation proceeds to the missionary program.

We are also producing a series of 10 cards depicting the Utah Temples. Both this and the World Wide Series are limited to 10,000 of each series. Worldwide Digital is producing the cards and ITS provides the platform and other services.

Destiny Expanding to the Big Apple

ALBANY, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 29, 1997--Destiny Telecomm International Inc., one of the nation's fastest growing network marketing companies, announced that it has signed an accord allowing it to operate in New York state.

The agreement between the company and the state Attorney General's office contains guarantees that assure the Destiny's business practices conform to the specific codes of New York state.

Destiny president Randy Jeffers said the agreement would open up a period of major growth for the network marketing company in the state. "We're changing lives in New York, and around the world," he said.

Destiny director of information Paul Matson said he was concerned about comments attributed to the Attorney General's office implying that Destiny had been operating a pyramid scheme. "Destiny has been operating legally and ethically in New York, and will continue to cooperate with state regulators," Matson said.

Matson said he was concerned about a statement alleging that Destiny required independent representatives to pay a "substantial membership fee."

"Perhaps we have been confused with another company. There is no charge for associating with Destiny," he said. "Commissions are based on the sale of products only." The agreement, called an Assurance of Discontinuance, states that the company "does not admit any wrongdoing."

Destiny agreed to pay $175,000 to the state to cover costs, a penalty, and attorneys fees. The state agreed to waive an additional $175,000 in fees and penalties with full company compliance with the agreement for one year.

Jeffers said Destiny paid the money as part of a business decision to allow it to keep operating in the state. "We're not going to let our people -- and our customers -- down," he said.

An estimated 7,500 New Yorkers have become Destiny independent sales representatives. The company has 750,000 representatives world-wide. Destiny markets prepaid phone cards, long distance service, as well as health and personal care products.

Unlike illegal pyramid schemes that generate profits through recruitment fees, Destiny is a product driven company that is prospering on the basis of its service, and the quality and competitive pricing of its products.

The company reported sales revenues of $82 million in 1996 and anticipates revenues will nearly double in 1997. It is MCI's ninth largest domestic customer, and pays that telecommunications company $18 million annually to use its transmission services. Destiny built the nation's largest debit card platform in Oakland, Calif. to handle its own prepaid phone card needs. Sales of the company's new line of health products have risen to $200,000 monthly and are anticipated to more than double within the next six months.

Jewish Unity Concert Phonecards

NEW YORK, May 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Of the 50,000 celebrants expected at Central Park on Sunday, June 1, 2,500 will be able to make free domestic or international calls, courtesy of Jewish Unity Concert sponsor Econophone, Inc.

Beginning at 2:00 p.m., one hour before the concert's commencement, Econophone will distribute 2,500 pre-paid phone cards -- 1,500 cards are valid for 13 minutes of free calls to any location in the United States and 1,000 are valid for a free three-minute call to Israel.

Distribution of the cards will be from the independent telephone supplier's booth near the summer stage at the Fifth Avenue and 72nd Street entrance to the concert, according to Econophone's president and chief executive officer Alfred West.

"There are numerous families in the New York metropolitan area with relatives in Israel as well as thousands of students here from Israel, so we expect no shortage of applicants for the free calls," said Mr. West. The telephone company will also give away tee shirts and balloons, and raffle off two state-of-the-art cellular telephones at the festival.

This is the fourth annual Jewish Unity Concert, and this year it is being held in honor of the 30th anniversary of modern Jerusalem, according to Felice and Michael Friedson, who are emceeing the event. It will feature Avraham Fried, noted cantor Joseph Malovany, Ira Heller, the Jerusalem Boys Choir and other leading names in the Jewish entertainment world.
