Charity Auction Update

I would like to thank everyone who has donated or committed to donating material for the auction to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation. This auction will be held from June 6-13, 1997. Pacific Bell Mother’s Day

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 25, 1997--Last year nearly 30 million people called their moms on Mother's Day -- making it the most popular holiday to place a telephone call.

About 22 percent of those who call mom on Mother's Day also send a card, with more than 21 percent sending flowers too. This Mother's Day, Pacific Bell and FTD have addressed this trend by offering consumers a gift package to keep moms connected beyond Mother's Day.

The $10 Pacific Bell Gift Occasion Prepaid Phone Card, perfect for Mother's Day, is offered in both English and Spanish, and is available in two designs, "Pink Roses" and "Woman with Lilies."

The limited-edition Prepaid Card for Mother's Day, packaged with a greeting card and savings coupon for FTD Flowers, are available at participating retailers. For retail locations or to order directly from Pacific Bell, call 1-800-310-BELL -- but call early to ensure on-time delivery for Mother's Day.

NYNEX Update

For those interested in contacting NYNEX, Ivan Seidenberg will be the new president of Bell Atlantic (the merged company that just got approval), while Ray Smith will be chairman for a year. They can be reached at: 1095 Avenue of the Americas, New York, NY 10020. Additionally, a reader points out that British Telecom (BT) recently switched from a stripe card to a chip card, and were offering refunds on returned cards. He did not know though if dealers who purchased large quantities would also be able to get a refund.

The Collector-Link Phonecard

This card was produced to celebrate the 2000th card related web site cataloged at Collector-Link. We catalog all sports card sites, non-sport card sites, as well as phonecard related web sites. A contest is currently being held at the web site (http://www.collector-link.com) where 30 people will randomly win a phonecard just by searching for collectible web sites.

For those who do not want to wait, this card is also available for sale for $5 plus shipping. There is a limited supply of cards allocated for sale.

Mobil Go Cards Update

According to the kind folks at Mobil, a new GO card is set to be released on May 5th. The card is designed to be given as a graduation present and bears a related image. The card is available in $25, $50 and $100 denominations.

Also (as mentioned here earlier) the Indy, Porsche, and NASCAR related cards are indeed sold out. The Corvette card continues to be available, but keep in mind that this card is only available in a $100 denomination. Cards in the Hispanic series (also referred to by Mobil as the Latino series) and African-American series continue to be available. Information is not yet available concerning a future collectors series of cards.
