rec.collecting.phonecards AT&T Phone Card

Front of rec.collecting.phonecards Card

This story has a lot of personal significance for me, because of my association with the newsgroup, along with the fact that I helped produce this card. After the newsgroup was created, I talked a lot with Joe Cotton of East West Telecom about the creation of a phonecard commemorating the event. Joe was enthusiastic about the idea, and really put in a lot of effort to get this card produced. After more than a year of planning, the final results are well worth the wait. A picture of this card is available on-line at http://www.cardmall.com/recphone - Here is information from the press release:

POL Special Contest

I received a few of these cards to use for promotional purposes, and the card to be awarded will be to one of you. Unlike other contests, you do need to work for this one! I need a one paragraph entry answering the following question:

What is your favorite card in your personal collection, and why?

If you write to me, you may be listed in a future issue of POL (If you want to be anonymous, you may request that!) One name will be drawn at random from the entrants this Friday, January 31, and announced in the near future. The winner will receive an AT&T rec.collecting.phonecards phone card. Good Luck!

Presidential Phonecards

I was informed today that MCI produced 2,000 PC's, 5 minutes each, for the Inauguration. They were handed out to the public, by employees, on the streets of DC during the parade. MCI jackets and other stuff were also given away I was told they have an image of the White House on them, but do not have the Inaugural Seal.

Target Card

In this Sunday's insert, the ad for Target has a free 10 minute calling card from Northwestern Bell with purchase of a Telephone for $10.00. It is nice to see an offer like this.

Telergist Society

I received e-mail this week from this group. It appears to promote Seamless Technologies International cards, and the cost for membership is $89 for lifetime benefits. Here is the information directly:

Seamless Technologies International began the first collectable card membership program in the world called the Telergist Society. In addition, Seamless offers a business plan that will provide profits from the sale of these cards and also allow the distributor to build a collection of beautiful and valuable products. This program will feature privately produced, "exclusive" cards produced expressely for the Telergist Society, as well as rare and collectable cards from around the world. This program will be open to anyone, anywhere in the world! At present, only U.S. distributors will be able to market this program but people from other countries are welcome to join as customers. You do not have to be a distributor to join. The annual membership includes:

If you have any questions or would like more information on this program, please contact Monty at toll free (888) 495-2365 or e-mail MontyQu@aol.com

Visit http://www2.voicetelephone.com/vtc/frecard.html and register to win a free phonecard. You also have a chance to win a $100 card!

That’s all for this week, as I write from my brand new office in my almost moved in house!
