HT Technologies
What seems like a long time ago, I received notification that I was the winner
of an HT Technologies Phone Card - All I was supposed to do was respond
to an e-mail message with my address, and I would get the card. Well, a long
time passed, and I heard nothing. Others heard nothing as well, and they
voiced their opinions in rec.collecting.phonecards. Well, the card and
newsletter came today - I was really impressed with the card! It is of the San
Francisco Bay near downtown - It also has their web address on the card,
which is interesting. For those logo collectors, there is a coke logo on the
front of the card. The theme of the card is Fleet Week, which took place last
October. Phone time is unknown. The newsletter is nothing more than a
color sales sheet, but I did not expect anything more. Besides, they gave me
a free phonecard, what more can I ask for? You can see the HT Technology

The Memphis Mafia Phonecard
When I first heard about this, I thought great, now everyone has a
phonecard! Instead of offering "protection" maybe they now pushed
phonecards. After hearing what the title meant, I felt kind of silly for
jumping to conclusions. The Memphis Mafia was a self-given name to a
group of people who were close friends of Elvis Presley before he became
the King. Marty Lacker, who produces the card, states "We have the
distinction of being the only celebrity entourage that has it's own phonecard."
The card has a simple design, with the name of the group as well as pictures
of what I suppose are three hitmen. There is also a quote that says "Keeping
the Memory Alive" as well as the wording Limited Edition Series #1. The
card comes with 15 minutes of long distance time provided by LCI, and the
mintage of this series is 50,000. When you order the card, you get more than
just a phonecard, you get a membership certificate into the Memphis Mafia
(I suppose like the real Mafia, once you are in, you are in for life!) The cost
is $19.95 plus $3.50 shipping, and you can call (800) 445-9933, or e-mail

Gillette News
Anyone still trying to complete their Gillette Sets? A lot of you are. For those
who do not know what the Gillette promotion is/was, last year, if you
purchased a package of 10 razors, you received a Sprint NCAA Final Four
Card (For those who don't remember, UCLA won the championship last
year) This set off a razor buying frenzy on CompuServe. I personally must
have purchased 400 razors, and that was a low total compared to others.
Well, the folks from Gillette have a new promotion planned. for you. 2
Million cards will be issued, 16 different images, a total of 32 variations.
Slightly kinder than last year. Instead of abstract art, this year's cards are
supposed to have actual photographs (yes!), and will form a puzzle. I now
have enough razors to last until 2007, after this year I will be able to make it
until at least 2030.
Some Promotions
A 10 minute AT&T Phonecard is in specially marked packages of General
Foods International Coffees - No further details at the moment
Staples has mailed appreciation cards to its customers, service provider being
Transcommunications Inc. Guess it pays to be on their mailing list, I am not
so I do not expect a card anytime soon
Avis has a promotion going where you can get a 10 unit card. The card
shows a satellite over the globe with the word Global Phonepass and Avis.
Call (800) 331-1212 for details, I am unaware of the specifics
A mail order magazine called the PZ Zone has a MCI 30 unit card available
when buying their phone book on CD ROM - Call (800) 258-2088 for more
information or to order
If you get a chance, pick up the January issue of PCM Report - Yours truly
has an article published in it (okay, shameless self promotion, but I still think
it is neat when I see my name in print)
Remember, re-subscribe to the newsletter right now - It is painless, and it
will guarantee that you will continue to receive the newsletter!
Until Next week, Happy Collecting,
Alan
